This symptom can occur with BPH, but it is not specific to BPH. NIDDK notes that urinary symptoms may also be related to bladder problems, urinary tract infections, prostatitis or prostate cancer.

Persistent, worsening or bothersome symptoms should be discussed with a health professional. Inability to urinate, blood in the urine, fever/chills with painful urgent urination, or significant lower abdominal/urinary pain require prompt medical attention.
